Good for you and them!
Donkey therapy & community
Donkeys certainly like a good social life. It may seem a blissful existence - living in a field and grazing for up to twelve hours a day - but donkeys get bored. They like the stimulation of doing different things and getting out and about in the community.

Donkey therapy
We travel around the Island and occasionally the mainland to meet dementia patients, stroke patients and people who have significant needs, who find great comfort, calmness and enjoyment from a visit from our donkeys.
Donkeys are ideal animals to provide therapeutic support. Stroking a friendly and loving animal provides lots of pleasure and relief.
Therapy visits information:
- Visits must be booked in advance.
- Visits take place on Mondays and Thursdays, term time only. We offer an 11:30am or a 2:30pm visit.
- Each visit will last between 30 - 45 minutes.
- You must be able to provide parking on site for a 3.5-ton horse box with enough space to load and unload two donkeys easily. The outside should have a grassed area.
- We only provide inside visits if there is enough space for a donkey and the donkey is willing to go inside.
- We ask for a contribution of at least £80.00 towards the cost of the visit to be paid in advance.
Please contact us at info@iowdonkeysanctuary.org for more information and to book a visit.
Community
Our donkeys have been on many adventures around the Isle of Wight, including fayres, schools, open days, Palm Sunday processions, and Christmas events, to name a few. The donkeys certainly love being centre of attention, with all ages!

Working with schools
We are very proud of our relationship with schools and colleges. They have supported our work in many ways....
- They visit us and carry out activities to improve their knowledge of our animals and the environment.
- They adopt donkeys and make a partnership with us, and they help to fundraise for the Sanctuary.
- They participate in work experience and placements that we offer, to help further educate young people.
